Abbington Oaks Hosts Polar Express Party for Residents

Southport, NC – Manager Sue Clemmons and maintenance technician Stan Kay wanted to make sure the children of Abbington Oaks had an extra memorable holiday celebration this year, so they decided to plan a “Polar Express” party. This was not just a typical Christmas party – it involved building a train! Using donated plywood, a deli tray painted red with a tap light for the headlight, PVC pipe for the top of the train, landscape fabric, spray paint, and fake snow, Sue and Stay constructed an actual Polar Express train for the children. The magical event started with the children of Abbington Oaks being told to dress in their pajamas and wait in front of their buildings. Sue and Stan then pulled the festive train behind Stan’s truck complete with train sound effects, and picked up each kid for a ride around the complex. Their final stop was the property’s fitness room which they turned into the North Pole with lights, decorations, and music. Santa was even in attendance to hand out gifts and hot chocolate! Sue says it was “hard work, but worth it to see happiness on the children’s faces”. Sue and Stan truly went above and beyond for their residents this holiday season!
